Brand India Mission 2021 is going to be launched by the central government soon. This Mission Brand India will focus on the promotion of quality products that are manufactured locally in the country itself. The new has been piloted by Sh. Piyush Goyal led the Ministry of Commerce & Industry. Brand India Mission is based on similar policies in other countries like the United States of America, Switzerland, France, Germany. These countries regulate claims made to goods produced in their jurisdiction.
Brand India Mission 2021
The Brand India Mission is linked to the extent of local production with countries such as Switzerland offering the tag to service sector companies if they are headquartered there. In the case of food products, the requirement is 80% local production. Sh. Piyush Goyal’s plan is being discussed with the Quality Council of India and other agencies last week. The central govt. is looking at the country of origin certificates. It would be voluntary with self-certification to be vetted by certain entities. It will be applicable to natural as well as manufactured goods.
Check Eligibility Criteria for Brand India Tag
In order to become eligible for the Brand India tag, the following eligibility criteria must be met:-
- Manufactured goods producers need to be registered in India.
- The company should comply with the prescribed health and safety standards.
- A minimum of 20% local content is being discussed with the final assembly required in India.
The entire certification process under Brand India Mission is proposed to be completed within 6 to 10 days of an application being filed. The monitoring process is expected to start after 6 months. Once a decision is taken, the Brand India Mission can be launched in around a year with the initial plan to be tested through a few pilots.
How Registered Entities to Get Govt Recognition
All those registered entities who opt for the Brand India Mission may be given govt recognition in the following things:-
- Government e-Marketplace
- Preference in public purchase
- Other benefits including those under trade agreements
These plans under Brand India Mission are still to be firmed up. After border tension with China, the Indian government has shifted to an Atmanirbhar Bharat strategy. The central govt. is seeking to get Indian companies to be part of the global value chain, in addition to producing for the domestic market.
Along with import curbs on some products such as TV sets and tyres, the center is also insisting on disclosing the country of origin of goods, especially in the case of eCommerce. A host of products, from electronics to automobiles and defense equipment have been identified as potential focus areas.
